Chapter 1: Full moon
Emylia threw her bag on the ground and runned the stairs towards her bedroom. It was over! School was over! Forever! She let herself fall on her bed and gazed at the ceiling. Was this a dream? Would she be awoken in a few minutes by her mother, screeming from the kitchen that she would be late if she wouldn't come out of bed instantly? No, it was really over. It felt so surreal! But what now?
Suddenly the happiness of being relieved of the heavy burden of school disappeared. That question came down on her like a bucket of icewater. Of course her parents and teachers had asked that a thousand times to her, but she had always thought of the furure as... The future. Far away, not yet. She had no idea what she wanted with her life. But she should know that by now... She had to know! Because this was the rest of her life, now she had the choice. She was free.
What was it that she wanted to be?!? Where did she want to go? She jumped up and stepped towards the mirror. "What do you want?" she asked herself in a loud voice. But she didn't answer herself as she didn't know. Frustrated she stared at the image of herself. At her long black hair and her even darker eyes. Her face was delicate. She knew this, she knew she was a beauty, but she didn't really pay attention to this. It wasn't important. And she was right. It really wasn't important. But wat was important at this moment is that she had to make up her mind. She knew she couldn't wait any longer, that way she would stay her forever, and she knew one thing: she wanted to get away. That was a start, and a good one. Away. Where to? She had no idea. She just walked out of the house, not even saying goodbye to her mother. And that is where the story of Emylia starts.
Chapter 2: Wandering
Emylia walked and walked, but she had no idea where she was heading. All she knew was that her feet had to keep moving to restrain the panic in her head. Strange actually, that she freaked out like this. This wasn't her... But what was she then? She sure didn't know...I actually don't think there was anyone in the entire world who knew Emylia well. She was a bit of a loner, had no real friends or enemies, but she didn't care either. Her life had been good this way, easy and flawless. But it was over now and the future was one big mystery.
Slowly the landscape around her was changing. She was leaving the city and entering the woods. Most girls of her age would be afraid to wander the woods at this time, but she wasn't. She had always loved the woods, especially at night. And tonight it was full moon. Perfect, she thought. She felt the panic slowly disappear. Suddenly she heard voices. She stood still and tried to be very quiet. Not that she wanted to overhear them, but in a strange way those voices got her full attention. Something inside her head told her not to make a single noise now.
She tried to come closer to the scource of the sound, avoiding all branches that could expose her. She knew these trees as she knew the cracks in the walls of her bedroom. Succenly she stood at the edge of an open spot, swiftly she stepped backwards, now safe in the shadow of the bushes. She couldn't believe what she saw there standing in the moonlight. One creature was amazing, it was man-like but more perfect and gracious a man could ever be. And he had enormous wings on his back. A dim blue light seemed to ridiate from his body. The other creature looked a lot like him, but something evil lay over his appearance. The feathers on his wings were not blueish-white, but black-red. He emitted anger and revenche.
"Okay, can you explain to me what's happening now? I understand that you, as lucifer are far better informed than I am, but as we're no enemies I think I deserve to know."
That was the blue creature.
"A mistake has been made. Of course don't you know this as you are an inferior angel. You angels are far too dependant on what they hear from others. You should find out something yourself from time to time, that's healthy. Anyway, that seems to be dangerous up there. It's what I did..."
"No, that's not what you did. Your sight has been troubled lucifer. The anger and jealousy blind you. We are not gods army, like you think we are. You are not expelled, it's just that you don't fit in our community any longer as you have completely other aims. I'm sorry that you feel this way, can you now tell me what is going on?!?"
"Whatever... As I said, a mistake has been made. About 17 years ago, a human being was born without a destiny."
"Are you serious?!? Not again... The last time was 3120 years ago, and I'm still tired of it..."
"Oh, if you don't feel up to this, I can handle it alone if you want..."
"NO! You know this choice can not be made lightly. This soul decides which side the balance will swing to. What is the name of this human anyway?"
"She lives nearby, but not for very long anymore, her name is Emylia."
Chapter 3: Gray
Emylia stood there as if frozen. From her face you could not tell if she had actually heared what the angel and lucifer had just said, but I can assure you that she had. Suddenly the paper walls of her safe little world had been ripped away and she stared frightened into the empty space that was behind them. Why? Of all the people in the world? Why she?!? Why wouldn't they let her alone?!?But what Emylia did not realise was that she was what she was only because of this. This state of 'no destiny' had made her life totally pointless until now and that's the way she liked it.
Then a new thought came up. From what she had just heared she had understood that she might be the only human on earth who had free will. She felt free now school was over, but she was more free than everyone else. She was the only one with a choice... But then again, why did they pick her?!? She was not fit for this task, she didn't know what she wanted. She had no idea where she wanted to go, what she wanted to be, and she was horrible in picking sides... She always ended up in voting blank...
She turned around and left the two magic creatures behind her. One moment she wandered if she could pretend this had never happened. That she had never seen the angel and lucifer. But she understood that this was too important to ignore. What then? Just pick a side? Make the choice? Whould they let her alone that way? That would be too easy and she knew it. She thought of what the angel said; "This choice can't be made lightly." and she shivered. Somehow she had the idea that this simple choice, good or evil, heaven or hell, or even white or black, could have disastrous consequences. And worse, she didn't want to pick at all! Why couldn't she take grey? Why did everything have to be so black and white?!? Why wasn't there any color? Or were there colors, and was she just too blind to see them?
She had reached an open spot again and stoppped to sit down for a moment. This was her favourite place in the woods. Looking at the full moon, she saw the two creatures flying over. Angels... Yes they were both angels, she had payed attention during the theology lessons. Lucifer was an angel, though a fallen one. On this moment, she looked at her watch, two angels were looking for her, and she was hiding in the woods, looking at the full moon. 12:12 am. She was born on this moment, exactly 18 years ago...
Chapter 4: Detective Angel
Emylia sat at her bed and tried to make sense of what happened (or what seemed to have happened, as she wasn't sure yet if it hadn't been a dream) tonight. The fact that she had seen two angels didn't supprise her at all, she didn't even realise how unreal it seemed, or how strange it was. She was more concerned about the connection between those creatures and her. She was afraid this was going to get her into a lot of trouble and she was right at that point. This was the intro of the new life what she asked for, but those two creatures had in her mind never been a part of it. Now she had to take them into account all of a sudden and it annoyed her. Then her mother came into her room and looked supprised at her.
"Already awake?!? I'd expected you to sleep at least until four 'o clock... Anyway, happy birthday. Any wishes for today, my adult doughter?"
Emylia looked a bit sleepy and yawned. No, I think I'm going to sleep untill 4 'o clock anyway. She waited until het mother walked away again and she stood up to look out the window. Something had told her that she was not alone. Something or someone was looking at her, and it couldn't possibly be one of her parents. In the corner of her eyes she saw a red glow, but one moment later it was gone again. She didn't need anything else to know what was going on. They were not going to let her alone anymore. So what now? She wanted to be free (that was all she knew, so she figured that had to be her goal for now). She was not free as long as she lived in her parents house, so that would have to change. She'd also have to find a way to get rid of her prosecutors, that would be a lot more difficult. Because how do you fool an angel? There had to be a way, she was sure of that. But finding that way could be a lot harder. Who knew about angels? She sure didn't and she didn't expect to find anything useful in google either. Anyway, sitting in here wouldn't help her. She didn't feel much like sleeping, so what then? Just follow her feet? She'd see where she'd end up. Let's hope those angels couldn't foresee where she was going if she didn't know for herself...
Chapter 5: Fortune-teller?
Wandering the streets, Emylias attention was suddenly catched by a small store. She knew it, it was a new age shop. "Yedaki" read the sign above the door. She wondered what that could mean. Almost without thinking she opened the door and stepped inside. The scent of incense came towards her, but it was calming, not overwhelming. Inside it was a little bit darker than outside on the streets, so she needed a few seconds for her eyes to adjust to the light. Then she saw the girl sitting behind the counter, gently smiling at her."I've been expecting you."
Emylia must have looked really stunned by then because the girl laughed and said in a loud voice:
"Oh sorry, I keep forgetting... I better say nothing at all I think."
Emylia relaxed, she had been expecting one of the two creatures any moment, but maybe her tactic had worked. But why had this girl been expecting her? Was this another plan of someone? Only one way to find out she figured.
"No, it's okay. But I'd like to know why."
